Synthesis of hydrogen chloride (HCl) by burning hydrogen gas(H2) and chlorine gas (Cl2) in graphite hydrochloric acid synthesis units/furnace has proved to be an economical and reliable operation. This is true particularly in those processes where chlorine gas(Cl2) is produced as a by-product or where hydrogen chloride (HCl) or hydrochloric acid (HCl acid) is required for on-site use. Typical uses of HCl acid synthesis units/furnace occur in chlor-alkali brine electrolysis, vinyl chloride manufacture, paper and pulp production and various metallurgical processes.
Hydrochloric acid/HCl acid synthesis unit demonstrate their capability in operation through their unquestioned advantages:
- Hydrochloric Acid/HCl acid synthesis unit can produce hydrochloric acid (HCl acid) in a concentration of 1 to 36 % HCl acid from chlorine gas (Cl2) and hydrogen gas (H2), using water or weak hydrochloric acid (HCl acid) as the absorbing liquid.
- Hydrochloric acid can be produced to any specification, ranging from technical or chemical quality to foodstuffs quality.
- Chlorine residual gas can be combusted together with the concentrated Cl2 gas and H2 gas to produce HCl gas.
- Weak acid can be fed into the absorber as absorbing liquids and brought up to the required acid concentration.
- The energy can be recovered in the form of steam or hot water by suitable adaptation of the combustion chamber.
